Program Overview for BA in German in Canada:

Gain a solid understanding of one of the world's most widely-spoken languages and its influences on modern thinking. Combine German studies with other programs, such as Environment, Sustainability, and Society (ESS) or Political Science—and find out how the writings of Freud, Nietzsche, Marx, Hegel, Goethe, and Schiller are still relevant to today’s complex social problems.

Careers and future study:

Almost any career dealing with the history and culture of Europe will bring you into contact with the German language and people. Because it's one of the most widely spoken of all European languages, German is one of the most practical languages to study — whether your future plans include teaching German or simply travelling to Europe on business. Possible career options include:

• professor
• foreign correspondent
• translator

Future studies could include programs at the graduate level in German or arts and social sciences, or you could pursue a degree in law or education.

Minimum admission requirements:

1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
2. A minimum overall average of 70% in five academic Grade 12 courses
3. A final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 academic English and any other required subject (see list below)

Please note: Admission to many programs at Dalhousie is competitive; meeting the minimum average doesn’t guarantee admission. Typically, 70% or higher is necessary in all required subjects for early admission.

If you don’t currently meet these requirements, you may be eligible for one of our upgrading or pathway programs.

International High School Applicant Requirment Based on Curriculum:

1. Advanced Placement (AP)
2. Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE)
3. French Baccalauréat
4. GCE A Level (British System)
5. Home-schooled applicants
6. International Baccalaureate (IB)
7. US Curriculum

You'll be assessed based on the equivalency of your home country.
