The Bachelor of Arts specializing in Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) is an interdisciplinary and application program that focuses on conflict transformation with special attention to local indigenous and community content.

In addition to discussing peace and conflict strategies in the classroom, you can also learn practical skills and gain practical experience in conflict reconciliation and transformation work to promote equality, justice, and access and ownership of resources in a way fair. 

Course: 

• Teaches the theoretical components of peacebuilding and applies them to real-world settings, challenging you to think critically at each analysis stage and develop problem-solving skills. 
• Enables you to become a proactive global citizen by focusing on active communication and understanding across cultures.
• Assumes that all people are equal and defends the concept of empathy, equality, and mutual respect that create the best conditions for social, intellectual, and personal development.
• Promote cross-cultural dialogue between the Fraser Valley and abroad. The core curriculum guides the various ethnic groups in the Fraser Valley to engage in face-to-face dialogue focused on conflict and peacebuilding.
• Provides you with detailed case studies and extends your analysis to a global context. Learn from international peace practitioners and have the opportunity to develop work skills and participate in peace-building fieldwork.
• Focuses on local and global sustainability.

Career Expectations:

Peacebuilding is a relatively new and rapidly developing field characterized by changing career paths and diverse employment opportunities. After graduation, you can find jobs in various fields, including foreign affairs, international development, peacebuilding, propaganda, humanitarian aid, restorative justice, social entrepreneurship, and more.

With rich field experience and additional education, you can become a senior consultant or an independent consultant.

To enhance your job prospects in an international environment, add professional qualifications to your titles, such as Second Language, Logistics, Urban Planning, Communications, Accounting, Nursing, Agriculture, or IT.

The Bachelor of Arts major in Peace and Conflict Studies can also guide you to further peacebuilding and conflict transformation or study in related fields such as law, policy research, international development, or public administration.

High School Applicants, please provide a copy of:

• Your high school transcript(s) and proof of graduation if you have graduated from high school, or a copy of your interim high school transcript(s) if you are currently in high school.
• If you are currently studying in a high school outside of Canada, you will be required to provide your final high school transcript and proof of graduation in August, or at the latest, before fall classes begin.
• If you are currently studying in a BC high school or BC high school offshore, please provide your Personal Education Number (PEN) in your application. UFV can download your interim and final transcripts if you have provided permission to release your grades to UFV for one year at the Ministry of Education website.  The deadline to receive your final high transcript and proof of graduation is August 3.

Post-Secondary Applicants, please provide a copy of:

• Your high school transcript(s).
• Your post-secondary transcript(s) from all institutions attended. Please note that evaluation of previous post-secondary credit is a requirement for admission to some programs. If your official post-secondary transcript(s) is required, a document evaluation fee will be charged to your student account.

Option 1: Secondary school (for students with secondary school graduation only)

1. B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent. (Students who have completed a secondary school equivalency program will also be considered but must complete the specific entrance requirements below.)

2. Prerequisites for MATH 141.

3. Prerequisites for ENGL 105.

4. Prerequisites for PHYS 101.

Option 2: University entrance (for applicants who have completed at least nine post-secondary credits at a recognized institution)

1. At least nine transferable credits at a recognized post-secondary institution with a minimum CGPA of 2.67 based on all university-level credits attempted.

2. Prerequisites for MATH 141.

3. Prerequisites for ENGL 105.

4. Prerequisites for PHYS 101.

Students who do not meet these requirements might consider Qualifying Studies.

Additional documents required for a complete application:

• Official transcripts (or interim transcripts) from all post-secondary institutions attended showing grade/course achievement as per entrance requirements.
