Program Overview for Master of Arts in Anthropology in Canada:

The Anthropology Graduate Program is one of the longest standing graduate programs at Trent University.

In addition to providing a thorough grounding in anthropological theory and research methods as a preparation for professional careers and/ or continuing study at the PhD level, our program produces graduates with sufficient depth and breadth of outlook to meet the need for resourcefulness, versatility and adaptability in modern society.

Areas of strength within the M.A. program include:

  • North American archaeology, European and Southwest Asian prehistory, the archaeology of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds;
  • Landscape and environmental archaeology, lithic technology, material culture studies, zooarchaeology, isotope biogeochemistry, bioarchaeology and mortuary practices;
  • Archaeological method and theory, public archaeology, anthropology of art, ethnographic studies.

B.A. or B.Sc. honours degree (a four year undergraduate bachelor's degree) in Anthropology or a related field, or equivalent. Minimum B+ (77%) or equivalent in the work of the last four semesters or the last two undergraduate years (last ten full credits). A foundation in appropriate research methodology. A GRE test score is not required for admission into this program.Other Documents Required are:

  • Transcripts(transcripts must include a grading scale or legend.)
  • Two Letters of Reference
  • Plan of Study(Typically 1-2 pages, outlining applicant's objectives in a graduate program. Any specific research interests (if known), relevant experiences, and/or career aspirations can be included. The potential supervisor should be identified in your plan of study.)
  • A Writing Sample(Submit a sample of your writing of about 20 pages or less. Writing samples preferred format is PDF.)
  • Proof of Citizenship (ie. copy of passport or birth certificate) will be requested, only if an offer of admission is made.
