Program Overview for MA in Gender Studies in Canada:

Women’s Studies is an interdisciplinary field dedicated to studying the historical, cultural, literary, and societal role of women and gender.

UNBC’s program has strengths in areas such as women’s and gender history; gender, literature, and literary theory; gender, colonialism, and post colonialism; gender and globalization; feminism, justice, and ethics; gender and health; and gender and international studies.

The Women’s Studies program offers majors and minors in Women’s Studies and, in cooperation with other programs, four joint majors. At the graduate level, the program offers the Master’s Degree in Gender Studies.

These are the international student eligibility for the MA in Gender Studies in Canada

A four-year (120 credit hours) Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) from a recognized institution. Grade point average of at least 3.00 (B) in the work of the last 60 credit hours (approximately the last two years). A Baccalaureate degree is required for entry. The minimum GPA of 3.00 (B) is based on the UNBC 4.33 scale. The GPA from sending institutions will be assessed and converted to the UNBC scale when being considered for admission.Other Admission Requirements:

  • Statement of Academic Interests: Your academic interests and ambitions, reasons for applying, and a tentative selection of courses for the program you intend to take
  • Proposed Supervisor’s Name
  • Evidence of post-secondary education including official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
  • Names/Email Address Information for Three (3) Referees
