The Departmental Graduate Committee reviews all applications. The Master of Arts degree in Anthropology is a general degree requiring a candidate to have a broad knowledge of the discipline's subfields. The program introduces students to our department's unique thematic foci and requires them to conduct a major, independent research project leading to a thesis.

Students must have passed undergraduate courses equivalent to those comprising the Anthropology Major Program (see University of Victoria Undergraduate Calendar). Applicants without this equivalent may be asked to take the appropriate courses to satisfy the Major requirements before admission into the MA program.

In addition to the materials required by the Faculty of Graduate Studies, applicants must submit a brief statement outlining the intended program and field of study and a recent sample of their scholarly work. Normally a B+ average (6.0 GPA) for the last two years of university work is a minimum requirement for admission to the MA program.
