Program Overview for Master of Physical Therapy in Canada:

The Master of Physical Therapy curriculum includes a combination of seminars, lectures, clinical skills, laboratory sessions, peer teaching, case studies, tutorials, problem solving exercises, independent study, collaborative group work, and development of a professional portfolio.

Clinical education is interspersed throughout the program and progresses from basic to advanced. The following are minimum requirements for entry into the Master of Physical Therapy program. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.

These are the international student eligibility for the Master of Physical Therapy in Canada

  1. Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status at the time of application.

  2. An accredited 3 or 4 year undergraduate degree in any area of study, recognized by the University of Manitoba. For 2021 admission, degrees must be conferred by the Fall of 2021.

  3. Successful completion of at least 24 credit hours in one regular Fall/Winter academic session (from September to April).

  4. A minimum grade point average of 3.25 in the last 60 credit hours* of university-level study.

  5. Equivalent IB and/or AP courses will be accepted in lieu of prerequisite courses.

  6. Successful completion of the Multiple Mini-Interview. Interviews for 2021 are scheduled for March 13 and 14, 2021.

  7. A minimum grade of a 3.0 or a “B” in the following prerequisite courses:

    • Human Anatomy (3 credit hours)
    • Human Physiology (3 credit hours)
    • Introductory Biology with genetics content (3 credit hours)
    • Introductory Psychology (6 credit hours)
    • Childhood Psychology (3 credit hours)
    • Aging (3 credit hours)
    • Introductory Statistics (3 credit hours)
    • English Literature (6 credit hours)

      Note: It is NOT permissible to use one three credit hour course to meet two different prerequisite courses. All prerequisite courses must be completed by the Fall term in the year prior to entry. In other words, for Fall 2021 entry, prerequisite courses must be completed by December 31, 2020. Human Physiology must be completed within five years of application (no earlier than 2016); all other prerequisite courses need to have been completed within the last 10 years (no earlier than 2011) or the equivalency within higher level courses. French Literature (6 credit hours) can be substituted in lieu of English Literature.

The English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements for Master of Physical Therapy in Canada: are:

N.B: ELP is not mandatory for all international students. You could apply without ELP if your previous degree's medium of instruction were in English. Students of Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, for example, are not required to take the ELP test.
