Program Overview for BSc in Actuarial Science in Canada:

Set yourself up for a successful career by learning how to calculate and understand risk. You'll graduate prepared for the Society of Actuaries (SOA) examinations, the final step on the path to becoming a professional actuary with internationally recognized credentials.

Careers and future study:

Many students who pursue a degree in Actuarial Sciences become professional actuaries working with private or public-sector employers to assess financial risks as diverse as natural disaster, insurance premiums and the impact of climate change. Careers in the actuarial field include:

• actuary
• risk analyst or consultant
• insurance underwriter

Future studies could include programs at the graduate level in mathematics, statistics, or business administration.

You’ll need to meet the general admission requirements as well as the program specific admission requirements before you can apply.

Minimum admission requirements:

1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
2. A minimum overall average of 70% in five academic Grade 12 courses
3. A final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 academic English and any other required subject (see list below)

Please note: Admission to many programs at Dalhousie is competitive; meeting the minimum average doesn’t guarantee admission. Typically, 70% or higher is necessary in all required subjects for early admission.

If you don’t currently meet these requirements, you may be eligible for one of our upgrading or pathway programs.

International High School Applicant Requirment Based on Curriculum:

1. Advanced Placement (AP)
2. Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE)
3. French Baccalauréat
4. GCE A Level (British System)
5. Home-schooled applicants
6. International Baccalaureate (IB)
7. US Curriculum

You'll be assessed based on the equivalency of your home country.
