Program Overview for Bachelor in Creative Writing in Canada:

OCAD University’s creative writing course is a practical, learning-based course that treats writing as an artistic creation. Unlike other creative writing courses, you can combine writing with art and design studio courses at Canada's largest art and design university. This program combines written, landscape, and visual expression.

You will participate in:

  • Online and printed magazines
  • Symposiums, seminars  
  • Public exhibitions and presentations
  • Books, magazines, and publication exhibitions
  • Field trips to local reading, conferences, and festivals
  • Digital and analog writing laboratories and access to sound studios 
  • A reading series tutor composed of mature emerging writers and students, as an apprentice, later became a mentor 

This program is for emerging writers. You will become part of a rich and supportive literary community. At the end of your degree, you will complete a series of works destined to publish or exhibit to start your career.

These are the international student eligibility for the Bachelor in Creative Writing in Canada

Secondary School Graduation equivalent to Grade 12 in Ontario with an overall average of B or 70% numeric equivalent in the final year and If you are applying from a country or school system with English as the official language of instruction, a minimum grade of B or 70% numeric equivalent in English 12 or equivalent course is required. You also need

  • Statement of Intent (required for all programs) and Portfolio (required for all studio BFA, BDes programs) or Writing sample (required for the BA in Visual and Critical Studies)
  • Official transcripts
  • English Language Proficiency Test results (if required)

Other requirements :

  • Portfolio featuring one of these: Up to 5 pages or equivalent poetry, spoken word, and/or hip hop, Up to 10 pages prose (fiction, creative nonfiction), Up to 5 pages or equivalent (15 minutes) hybrid or experimental form, Up to 15 pages (total) in more than one genre.
