Vancouver Island University’s Bachelor of Hospitality Management program prepares students for every facet of the bustling world of tourism and hospitality with a flexible two-year diploma or four-year degree.

In this experiential program, students have the opportunity to develop strong industry connections and gain technical and practical skills in the areas of hospitality marketing, accounting, human resources, management, and more.

The Management of Hospitality program prepares graduates to work in diverse fields such as hotel management, tourism programs, and sales and marketing.

VIU offers a four-year Bachelor of Hospitality Management degree. Students can exit with the Hospitality Management diploma after two years or go on to complete the additional two years to graduate with the Bachelor of Hospitality Management degree.

Hospitality diploma graduates from VIU or other Canadian institutions have the option of entering directly into the third year of the Bachelor of Hospitality Management program. After completing a bridging semester, Culinary Arts diploma graduates from VIU or other Canadian institutions can enter the third year of the degree program. Admission to the third year of the program is limited.

The program will involve the learner in an internationalized curriculum and culturally diverse professional and social environments. They will be engaged in activities that develop their skills to synthesize and solve problems in a global context.

The program balances academic and applied skills by designing learning opportunities where learners apply theories in hospitality business simulated environments and co-operative/internship placements.

  • Proof of English language proficiency
  • International students who are BC high school graduates must have a minimum grade of “C” in English 12 for direct entry into an academic program.
  • Official transcript of grades from high school (and post-secondary institutions where applicable).
  • A minimum "C+" grade in one of Principles of Mathematics 11, Applications of Mathematics 11, Foundations of Mathematics 11, Pre-calculus 11, or equivalent. A mathematics assessment and placement examination is available for applicants without this admission requirement.

  • a transfer student from a college or university (at least 24 transferable university-level credits completed);
  • English 12 with a minimum "C+" grade or equivalent.

Students in the third year of the degree will participate in either a Co-operative Education work term or an Internship. To receive a Co-operative Education designation, transfer students must have completed two Co-op work terms in their diploma activity. Participation in the third Co-op work term is based on the availability of space and academic performance with a minimum 3.0 (“B”) grade point average.
