The Foot Locker Scholar Athletes in USA: Twenty Foot Locker Scholar Athletes will each receive $20,000 in college scholarship money for their excellence in school, on their sports teams, and in their communities.

For 10 consecutive years, the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes program will provide 20 high school and college graduates nationwide with a scholarship of US$20,000 to recognize them as exemplary leaders in sports teams, classrooms, and communities. The college scholarships are sponsored by the Foot Locker Foundation to help outstanding student athletes realize their dream of attending a four-year college/university and achieving outstanding results. The Foot Locker Scholar Athlete program aims to recognize student athletes who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability and strong leadership in sports, schools, and communities. Whether you're the number one scorer or the most energetic member of the team, we want to know how you can use the skills you develop and become accustomed to in the locker room to have a powerful and positive impact on the lives of those around you.

Application Criteria for The Foot Locker Scholar Athletes in USA


In order to be eligible for the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program, the applicant must:

  • Be entering college in the Fall of 2021 as a Freshman at an accredited four-year institution for an undergraduate degree;

  • Be currently involved in high school sports, intramural sports, or community based sports.

  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0; 

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident (you will be asked to prove citizenship and age if you win); 

  • Not be an employee, officer or director of Foot Locker, Inc., or any of its subsidiaries, or a member of the immediate family of such an employee, officer or director.

The judges will evaluate each completed scholarship application on the points system based on the following factors:

  • Embody good sportsmanship and strong moral character. Foot Locker Scholar athletes are trusted and respected members of schools and communities. They have built strong relationships with other students, administrators, and community members and will have a lasting impact on them.

  • Display academic excellence. Foot Locker Scholar athletes have a thirst for knowledge, set high academic goals, and perform well in their studies.

  • Are passionate and committed to empowering the community in which they live. Foot Locker’s academic athletes have made a major commitment to improving the lives of others.

  • Are confident and enthusiastic about being a leader. Foot Locker Scholar athletes are not role models. They are confident, honest, and enthusiastic leaders, accepting challenges for the greater good.

  • Come from diverse backgrounds. Foot Locker Scholar athletes have unique life stories, come from different places, have different academic ambitions, and participate in a wide range of sports.

For this scholarship, you will be asked to answer the following two essay questions:

Sports teach important courses in leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship. How do you integrate these qualities into your team and community? (Your community may include: your volunteer experience, any leadership roles in your school or youth group, and/or any other projects or efforts you think we should really know about.) The suggested length is 300,500 words. 

Describes a watershed moment in your life that helped you shape your dreams and future plans. (Be sure to describe your academic/career goals and any challenges you have or currently face, and how they shape your ambitions.) The recommended length is 300,500 words.
