Since its establishment in 2003, APIA Scholars has been committed to tolerance in advancing our mission and vision. We believe that all Asian and Pacific Islander Americans should have the opportunity to receive higher education and resources, regardless of race, nationality or economic means. We also recognize and celebrate the identities of our community members as individuals, including their level of physical ability, gender expression, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, etc. 

Our vision is to enable all Asian and Pacific Islander Americans to have access to higher education and resources, regardless of race, nationality or economic means, which will cultivate their academic, personal and professional success. 

Our mission is to change the lives of APIA students by providing resources for APIA students to increase their chances of receiving higher education. This is the foundation for their future success and contribution to a more vibrant America.

Application Criteria for APIA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM in USA


APIA Scholars provides scholarships to underserved APIA students with a special focus on those who:

  • Live at or below the poverty level, or are otherwise of low socioeconomic status;
  • Are the first in their families to attend college;
  • Are representative of the APIA community’s diversity, (geographically and ethnically), especially those ethnicities that have been underrepresented on college campuses due to limited access and opportunity; and
  • Have placed a strong emphasis on community service and leadership as well as solid academic achievement.

APIA SCHOLARS MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR 2021-2022 ACADEMIC YEAR:

  • Be of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity as defined by the U.S. Census
  • Be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States. Citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau are also eligible to apply
  • Be enrolling as an undergraduate student in a U.S. accredited college or university in the Fall of 2021.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted) or have earned a GED
  • Must apply for federal financial aid for the academic year using the Free Application for the Federal Student Aid (FASFA) 
  • Submit one letter of recommendation online

Scholarship awards range from a one-time award of US$2,500 to a multi-year award of US$20,000. APIA scholars provide scholarships for underserved APIA students, paying special attention to the following groups: 

  • live at or below the poverty line, or have a low socioeconomic status; 
  • they are the first people in their family to go to college; 
  • represents the diversity of the APIA community (Geography and race), especially those ethnic groups that are underrepresented on university campuses due to limited visits and opportunities; 
  • attaches great importance to community service and leadership, as well as outstanding academic achievements.

Eligible Nationalities for APIA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM in USA


Be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States. Citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau are also eligible to apply.
