The purpose of the Western Reserve Herbal Society (WRHS) is to promote the knowledge and use of herbal medicine, and to contribute the experience and research results of its members to the horticultural and scientific records, and to disseminate this information through multiple channels.
WRHS was established on May 22, 1943 and soon became a unit of the American Herbal Medicine Association. Therefore, members can not only enjoy the many benefits of joining WRHS, but also the benefits of belonging to a national organization.
WRHS members enjoy meetings, seminars, herbal product production, herbal planting, field trips, gardening, and the friendship of like-minded people. Outside of the conference, members exchange and share information in the member area of the website and the monthly member newsletter Herb Scents.
WRHS Herb Garden is located in the Cleveland Botanical Garden at the University Circle in Cleveland, Ohio. It is one of the largest herb gardens in the country and is widely recognized for its design and quality. Sometimes it is a place for members or gardening students to conduct research or experiments.
WRHS offers scholarships to college students in gardening or related fields each year. The Herb Garden and scholarships are among the projects that benefit from funds raised by the Herb Fair and WRHS seminars in the fall of each year.
