Discriminatory policies and racial inequality have affected many important aspects of African American life, including higher education. In 2019, 29% of the black population between the ages of 25 and 29 had a bachelor's degree or higher, compared to 45% of the white population in the same age group. This has led to severe underrepresentation of blacks in the fields of science, mathematics, education, and engineering.

According to data from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, African-Americans account for less than 5% of the workforce in the Silicon Valley technology industry, while the proportion of blacks holding executive positions in the industry can be as low as 1%.

As a growing technology company, we have a great sense of responsibility to help build a fairer industry. We work with the National African American MBA Association (NBMBAA) to reduce the financial burden of black students’ college burdens and provide resources to help them succeed while earning their degrees.

Application Criteria for Zipwhip Women in STEM Scholarship in USA

Applicants who are interested in applying to Zipwhip Women in STEM Scholarship in USA must fulfill the following requirements:

Legal U.S. resident

18 years or older

Black student currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program at an accredited college or university

Not open to employees of Zipwhip or NBMBAA or immediate family members of those employees

Limited to one entry per student
