The Youth Award was established in 1998 by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. Now entering its 23rd year, it recognizes Latino high school students who have performed well in the classroom and community and have performed well in various fields, including business and entrepreneurship, community service, education, engineering, health and science, media and entertainment, Public Service. As well as social justice, sports and fitness, sustainability and technology.

In each category, 4,444 gold, silver, and bronze award winners will be selected and receive a one-time grant to fund their university education or fund community service work that solves social problems. 

Once selected, the winners will be celebrated in 10 virtual ceremonies and will be part of our wider HHF network of 200,000 professionals, and will achieve our unique leadership cycle to satisfy the American classroom and workforce Priorities in.

The Youth Award program is the main channel of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) talent system, which provides preparation and positioning for Latino youth through the award-winning Latino Express Entry (LOFT) program to help them transition from high school to graduation.

Application Criteria for YOUTH AWARDS APPLICATION in USA


  • Be currently enrolled in high school and graduating in the spring of 2022
  • Must have a minimum unweighted 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or 7.5 on a 10.0 scale
  • Must enroll at an accredited higher education institution in 2022-2023
  • Be of Hispanic heritage (includes Spain, Brazil, Philippines)
  • If selected, attendance to virtual regional awards ceremony is mandatory
  • Be a U.S. permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or qualify under the DACA

  1. What influenced your interest in the Youth Awards category you selected? Elaborate if you have participated in any programs, classes, activities, or projects that relate to this possible career track?
  2. How have you been active in your community? Share a meaningful experience you had while giving back. Provide details on what it was, how it made you feel and the impact it had on those you served.
  3. Share an instance where you were challenged as a leader. What were some of the values and characteristics that you demonstrated? What lessons did you learn in your leadership capacity?
  4. Community service requires dedication and time, what inspires you to give back? What impact has it had on your high school experience? And how would you explain the importance of community service to a younger self?
  5. Part of the Youth Awards mission is to promote cultural pride, which gives us your assessment of our Hispanic/Latino community today. How we can continue empowering this generation to work together to demonstrate our value as Americans.
