THE COOLIDGE SCHOLARSHIP in USA: The Coolidge Scholarship is an annually awarded, full-ride, presidential scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study.

Application Criteria for THE COOLIDGE SCHOLARSHIP in USA


  • Applicants for the Coolidge Scholarship must plan to be a full-time student in the first American college or university in the fall of 2022. In other words, students in the third grade of high school, if they receive education at home, are considered equivalent and eligible to apply. (Students who are currently high school students but take some courses at local universities are indeed eligible to apply for Coolidge scholarships.) 
  • Applicants for the Coolidge scholarship must be citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States before the 2021 scholarship deadline. 
  • Applicants for the Coolidge Scholarship cannot be any current employee or trustee of the Coolidge Scholarship Program or Calvin's immediate family member Coolidge Presidential Foundation.

The Coolidge Scholarship is only open to U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents. U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents currently attending high school abroad are indeed eligible to apply. 

Coolidge Scholarship applicants cannot be the immediate family member of any current employee or trustee of the Coolidge Scholars Program or the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation.

Primary Criterion: Academic Excellence

Winners will show unusual academic depth and thirst for knowledge. In the case of the Coolidge scholarship, depth is as important as breadth. Coolidge laureates' interest in academic and intellectual pursuits extends beyond the classroom. Merely collecting evidence is not a defining characteristic of Coolidge scholars.


Secondary Criterion: Interest in Public Policy and Appreciation for Coolidge Values

From his childhood in Notch, Plymouth to his years in the White House, Coolidge studied public policy. Therefore, the scholarship seeks young citizens who have shown an interest in politics. Candidates must also demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the values ​​advocated by President Coolidge throughout his life. Some of these values ​​include: politeness, respect for companies, government savings, federalism, and respect for constitutionalism. The award is not limited to candidates who plan to pursue degrees in fields such as public policy or government.


Secondary Criterion: Humility and Service

Humility is a hallmark quality of leaders in the Coolidge tradition. In his autobiography, Coolidge wrote: “It is a great advantage to a President, and a major source of safety to the country, for him to know that he is not a great man.”

The Coolidge Scholarship seeks youth who demonstrate a sense of service and care for the well-being of others. Coolidge attaches great importance to Americans in helping their own communities and compatriots. The Coolidge Scholarship seeks young people who are committed to improving the community in meaningful ways. For Coolidge scholarships, royal service makes a difference, not an ambitious endeavor that young people may not be able to afford. Generally, young people can make the best contribution by participating in existing efforts rather than starting their own organizations.
