Application Criteria for Knoll Diversity Advancement Design Scholarships for Black Students in USA


Applicants to the Knoll Diversity Advancement Design Scholarships for Black Students Program must:

  • Identify as Black.
  • Reside in the United States or Canada.
  • Be high school seniors / students in their final year of upper secondary school who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university or CEGEP institution for the entire academic year.
  • Be pursuing a design-related degree; majors include, but are not limited to:
    • Architecture
    • Architecture Technician
    • Architecture Technology
    • Graphic Design
    • Industrial Design
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Industrial Production Technology
    • Interior Design

Children and grandchildren of employees of Knoll, Inc. and is subsidiaries are ineligible for this program.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • Copy of the most recently filed tax return filed with the IRS or Revenue Canada which was used to complete the Financial Information section. Please block out all social security/social insurance numbers before uploading.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $10,000 award. Up to five {5} awards will be granted.

Provided there are qualified applicants, recipients will be selected in proportion to the number of applicants per country.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study, maintaining an eligible major for this scholarship and continuation of the program by Knoll Foundation.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected based on financial need, architectural or industrial design goal essays, leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, unusual personal or family circumstances, and academic performance. 

Financial needs, calculated by US scholarships, will account for 25% of the assessment. The recipient must demonstrate the need.
