The Risk Management Association Foundation Scholarship Program in USA: The RMA Foundation is awarding over $200,000 annually in scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $8,000.

The Risk Management Association (RMA) was established in 1914 and is a non-profit, membership-driven professional association whose sole purpose is to promote the use of sound risk management principles in the financial services industry. RMA advocates a business risk management method that focuses on credit risk, market risk and operational risk. 

RMA is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and has 1,900 institutional members, including banks of all sizes and non-bank financial institutions. They are represented in the association by 18,500 risk management professionals who are members of chapters in the financial centers of North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Undergraduate students who are interested in working in the banking industry after graduation can apply for RMA Foundation scholarships. The Risk Management Association Foundation offers scholarships for undergraduate students who are interested in working in the banking industry after graduation. The RMA Foundation provides more than US $ 200,000 in scholarships each year, ranging from US $ 1,500 to US $ 8,000. Winners may reapply for scholarship renewal for up to two years, provided each student meets the renewal requirements and maintains their free student membership in RMA. 

As a membership-driven, not-for-profit professional association, RMA fosters a community of like-minded banking professionals who share ideas and experiences to promote the use of sound risk management principles in the financial services industry.

Essays:

  • Tell us about your interest in the banking industry, as well as your educational and career goals and objectives. (Approximately 200 words for each essay.)
  • Have you ever worked in a bank? If yes, please identify your department, your role and provide a summary of your key responsibilities.
  • What have you done that would provide compelling evidence of your interest in a banking career? Examples would include employment at a bank, RMA membership, involvement in the local RMA chapter, academic studies, mentoring, internships, etc.
  • Why are you interested in a career in banking?

Application Criteria for The Risk Management Association Foundation Scholarship Program in USA


Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada. 
  • Be current sophomores or juniors who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States or Canada and will continue to be enrolled full-time for the entire 2021-2022 academic year.
  • Be currently enrolled full time at an accredited four year college or university located in the United States or Canada for the current academic year.
  • Have an intent to work in the banking industry following graduation.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) overall.

Terms and Conditions:


Applicants do not have to be current members of RMA, but must join (free of charge) and maintain membership in order to receive and renew the scholarship. RMA employees and their families are not eligible to apply. Others who are not eligible to participate include current members of the RMA Board of Directors and the RMA Foundation and their families. Family members of all other RMA members (not members of the board of directors) are eligible to participate in the election.

Scholarship recipients are selected based on merit with the following factors:

  • Demonstrated interest in the banking industry; examples would include, previous employment in a bank, RMA membership, involvement in the local RMA chapter, academic studies, internships, etc.
  • Academic achievement.
  • Participation and leadership in community and school activities or related work experience.
  • Statement of career goals and objectives.

Financial need will not be considered.
