The Northwestern Mutual Foundation has established a scholarship program to help siblings of people currently in treatment, who have survived or died from childhood cancer, and plan to continue their education in college or vocational school courses.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the designer and manager of the largest scholarship program, tuition assistance, and other educational support programs in the United States. The program is open to companies, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are awarded regardless of race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.
Application Criteria for Northwestern Mutual Childhood Cancer Sibling Scholarship Program in USA
Applicants of the Northwestern Mutual Childhood Cancer Sibling Scholarship Program must:
- Be siblings of individuals who are in current treatment, have survived or passed away from childhood cancer.
- Applicants must upload an Affidavit, signed by Parent or Legal Guardian, confirming your status as a Sibling of someone who is currently in treatment, has survived or passed away from childhood cancer.
- Be age 25 and under who are high school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
- Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).

Terms and Conditions:
Employees and children of employees of Northwestern Mutual Foundation Inc. and Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company (and any of its affiliates and subsidiaries) are not eligible to apply.
As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:
- Current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.
- Affidavit, signed by the applicants Parents or Legal Guardians, confirming the applicant’s status as a sibling of a someone who is currently in treatment, has survived, or has passed away from childhood cancer.
- If necessary, a separate printed Financial Data Form may be submitted in order for one to be completed if parents cannot submit jointly on the electronic application.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
- Academic record
- Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Honors
- Work experience
- Statement of career and educational goals and aspirations
- Personal impact statement how sibling’s childhood cancer affected his/her life
- An online recommendation
Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.
Award information:
- If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award
- Up to 25 awards will be granted with a minimum of two (2) awards per time zone of the applicant’s home address (AZ, AK and HI included in Pacific Time Zone)
- Awards may be renewed for up to one year or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon maintaining full-time enrollment, a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent) and continuation of the program by Northwestern Mutual Foundation.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
