MPOWER Women in STEM Scholarship in USA: Grand Prize: $3,000 Honorable Mentions (2): $1,000
MPOWER is committed to empowering high-potential global citizens to realize their educational ambitions and to become the leading scientists and innovators of the future. The scholarship program focuses on women who will use their STEM degrees to benefit society and the planet, and they have become women in the STEM field The potential of role models and advocates.
The National Center for Education Statistics reports that 32% of STEM degrees in the United States are awarded to women within a year. Women who specialize in computer engineering, nuclear science, and software development should not look for challenges to realize their dreams.
In addition, the Association of Women Engineers found that gender inequality in engineering and informatics is particularly pronounced, with only 20% of engineering and informatics bachelor degrees held by women.
For Manu Smadja, CEO and co-founder of MPOWER, these statistics represent a social challenge that needs to be resolved. "As a society, it is important to us to enable women to shape meaningful representatives of the future of science and technology. For example, if we do a better job of enabling talented women to shape technologies that change healthcare, education, transportation or cities, then the world can be very different.
By helping talented female students study and work in North America, we are helping to close the gender gap in the STEM workforce, "said Smadja." But we want to do more. Starting this new STEM women's scholarship program is another form of fair competition. "
In order to reduce the burden on applicants, we only require you to submit a copy of your transcript (or admission letter) and proof of your citizenship, gender, and immigration status (i.e., your passport and visa) after we provisionally select you for award.
For study in the U.S., this means that the applicant is either a U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, or has a valid visa that permits study in the U.S. For study in Canada this means the applicant is either a Canadian permanent resident or has a valid Canadian study permit.
MPOWER will select winners based on:
We have a broad definition of this term, which includes any course at MPOWER partner universities that results in a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate. That is, in any field of science, technology, engineering or mathematics. This would include any branch of biology, chemistry, physics, geology, physical science, agricultural science, computer science, data science, engineering, or applied or theoretical mathematics.
This does not include medical or nursing courses, but we hope to launch a separate nursing scholarship competition soon. We will consider the full list of STEM course types, see http://stemdegreelist.com/stemdegreelist/. However, since it is difficult to develop a comprehensive list for this rapidly changing field of study, please note that if the course has a clear connection to the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, MPOWER may include other degree courses that are not on this list.
