Generation Google Scholarship in USA: Selected students will receive 10,000 USD (for those studying in the US) or 5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada) for the 2020-2021 school year.

The Generation Google Scholarship was established to help aspiring students pursuing computer science degrees excel in technology and become leaders in the field. Selected students will receive $10,000 USD (for those studying in the US) or $5,000 CAD (for those studying in Canada) for the 2021-2022 school year.

The Generation Google Scholarship will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, demonstrated leadership, and academic performance. The program is open to students who meet all the minimum qualifications and we strongly encourage students that identify with groups historically excluded from the technology industry, including Women, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, American Indian, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, to apply.

Applicants are not required to currently be enrolled in an Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program for the 2020-2021 academic year to apply. Recipients of one of the following Google Scholarships: Generation Google Scholarship, Google Lime Scholarship, Google Student Veterans of America Scholarship, Women Techmakers Scholarship for Computer Science, and Women Techmakers Scholarship for Gaming are not eligible to reapply.

Application Criteria for Generation Google Scholarship in USA


To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Have a high school degree or equivalent, unless you are currently a high school senior applying to university
  • Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at a university for the 2020-21 academic year OR currently enrolled as a high school senior intending to enroll at a university in the United States or Canada for the 2021-2022 academic year
  • Intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program at an accredited university in the United States or Canada for the 2021-2022 academic year
  • Be studying computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field
  • Demonstrate a strong academic record
  • Exemplify leadership and demonstrate a passion for improving representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology

You also need:

  • General background information (e.g. contact information and details about your current and intended universities)
  • Resume/CV
  • Academic transcripts from your current and prior institutions (if you have earned a prior degree)
  • One letter of reference from a professor, instructor, adviser or supervisor
  • Responses to four short answer essay questions
  • Recipients will be selected based on the overall strength of their essays and application materials compared to the entire applicant pool or respective peers (e.g. high school students compared to other high school students).

Eligible Nationalities for Generation Google Scholarship in USA


Any student already enrolled or planning to enroll as a full-time student in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program at an accredited university in the United States or Canada

Terms and Conditions:


The Generation Google Scholarship should be used to pay for the tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment that students need to attend classes at their elementary school. Scholarship recipients must be registered as full-time students in the academic year 20212022. Prior to selecting winners, enrollment will be verified and all scholarships will be paid directly to students for tuition and education expenses.

Students under the age of 18 upon admission must have their parents or guardians sign these terms and conditions of the scholarship. For fellows who no longer meet the eligibility requirements, we will retain their awards and cancel the awards for fellows who no longer meet the eligibility requirements. Selected winners will receive instructions from Google on how to win the prize.

If these steps are not completed by the specified deadline, the winner will not be able to receive the prize. The beneficiary may defer up to one (1) year from the date of the original planned payment, as determined by Google.

Google employees are not eligible to apply for Google Scholarships. (1) Residents of embargoed countries, (2) habitually residing in embargoed countries, or (3) individuals who are otherwise prohibited by applicable export control and sanctions programs cannot apply for this scholarship.
