Program Overview for Collaborative PhD in Canada:

The Collaborative PhD program offers outstanding graduate students the opportunity to receive training at the University of Manitoba and a collaborating university outside of Canada. The program provides a diverse educational experience, exposing students to research and scholarship at two universities.

Students will maintain full-time registration at both universities and must spend a minimum of one year at each institution. Students will defend their thesis only once at one of the universities. At the end of the program, the student will receive a PhD from the University of Manitoba and the collaborating university.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies offers a Collaborative PhD program which must be completed within six years of initial registration with a PhD program at the University of Manitoba.

Please Note that:(Master’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B or equivalent) in the last two previous years of full time study (60 credit hours) is the minimum requirement for admission to the PhD program. With special recommendation of the department, exceptional applicants with an honours bachelor’s degree may be considered for entry to PhD study)

  • TOEFL(ibt): 86
  • IELTS(academic): 6.5
N.B: ELP is not mandatory for all international students. You could apply without ELP if your previous degree's medium of instruction were in English. Students of Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, for example, are not required to take the ELP test.
