The Bachelor of Global Development Studies (GDS) is a broadly interdisciplinary program designed to provide students with key academic knowledge, skills, and experience to effectively fulfill the role of development professionals in Canada or abroad or to continue graduation or other specializations.

In addition to learning the history and theories of the development process and analyzing current global practices, international or national internships also provide opportunities to build connections and develop skills.

The program: 

  • Provides you with powerful advertising, problem-solving, research, and writing skills.
  • Using topics from economics, political science, anthropology, sociology, and communication promotes intercultural dialogue between local and foreign countries.
  • Offers unique internship opportunities for development organizations in Canada and internationally to apply what you have learned on a global scale.
  • Develop knowledge and skills in key disciplines by meeting the requirements of minor or interdisciplinary majors. 

It is based on the history and theory of the global development process and examines current debates in development practice.

Career Expectations:

Global development is a well-funded industry: in 2018, member countries of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) donated $ 153 billion in official development assistance (ODA).

International Development offers a wide range of career opportunities in management, research, fundraising, training, advocacy, and relief work. You may find yourself working for a government agency, an international organization, a non-governmental organization, a private company, or a research institution.

Adding professional qualifications such as logistics, urban planning, accounting, nursing, agriculture, or IT to your Bachelor of Global Development Studies can increase your employment opportunities in international development. With extensive experience in the field, you can find freelance work as a trainer, consultant, or consultant.

  • Your post-secondary transcript(s) from all institutions attended. Please note that evaluation of previous post-secondary credit is a requirement for admission to some programs. If your official post-secondary transcript(s) is required, a document evaluation fee will be charged to your student account.

  1. At least nine transferable credits at a recognized post-secondary institution with a minimum CGPA of 2.67 based on all university-level credits attempted.
