Our MEng course will prepare you for advanced professional work in an industrial setting. This plan will strengthen and expand your engineering knowledge. You will carry these skills into your career in mechanical engineering. This is a project-based plan that includes graduate courses and seminars.
Applicants will normally hold an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. The minimum requirement for admission to the MEng is B (grade point average of 5.0 on the University of Victoria scale of 9.0) for the last two years of university work.
Admission to the program is subject to the sponsorship of a supervisor. Prospective MEng students must contact potential supervisors before applying, where a potential supervisor must indicate interest.
Applicants for admission whose first language is not English must meet the English Competency Requirement specified by the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The minimum acceptable TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score for the Department of Mechanical Engineering is 575 on the paper-based test or 90 on the Internet-based test (the minimum score for each section is Writing: 20; Speaking: 20; Reading: 20; Listening: 20). A minimum acceptable IELTS score is 6.5, with a minimum score of 6.0 in each band. Even with passing TOEFL/IELTS scores, students may be required to take English language courses and their other coursework.
The admissions selection process is competitive. Not all students who meet the minimum requirements will be admitted. Typically, between 14 and 20 students are admitted to the program each year.
