Egyptology at Leiden University is an accredited degree programme. After successful completion of this programme, you will receive a master’s degree in Classics and Ancient Civilizations and the title Master of Arts (MA). It provides you with a multidisciplinary study of the languages, literatures and cultures of Ancient Egypt.
The one-year Egyptology master’s programme covers a wide range of focused, in-depth topics, including most of the linguistic and cultural history of Pharaonic, Graeco-Roman and Coptic Egypt.
The Faculty Board may, on request, grant admission to applicants who can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Faculty Board that they possess a level of knowledge, understanding and skills equal to that of holders of a bachelor’s degree from a Dutch research university in Ancient Near Eastern Studies/ Ancient Cultures of the Mediterranean World: Egyptology. You should have knowledge of at least one of the following, obtained through an academic Bachelor’s degree with a particular focus on Egyptology:
