The master’s in East Asian Studies, a specialisation within the master's of Asian Studies, combines an exceptional range of courses with advanced language training and outstanding resources and expertise.

The East Asian Studies master’s programme offers focused study of either China, Japan or Korea.

Study the country of your choice from an expansive number of disciplinary perspectives including history, literature, art, art history, sociology, anthropology, media, cultural studies, religious studies, philosophy, economics, development studies, linguistics, or politics and international relations.

The Faculty Board may, on request, grant admission to applicants who can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Faculty Board that they possess a level of knowledge, understanding and skills equal to that of holders of abachelor's degree from a Dutch research university in Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies or Korean Studies; You should meet the following requirements: thebachelor's degree is in the field of humanities or social sciences, you should have knowledge of the nature and role of as well as the ability to analyse and report on academic inquiry in the humanities or social sciences. You should have completed components at thebachelor's level (which may include the thesis) equivalent to at least 30 credits on the history, art, culture, politics, society and/or economy of one or more East Asian countries or regions.
