The research master’s programme in Archaeology is the most diverse in the Netherlands. Benefit from our extensive experience and international reputation in archaeological research, and lay the best foundation for a career in academia.

The two-year master's programme in Archaeology (research) is organised around the excellent research for which Leiden has reached international renown. Students in this programme will choose a supervisor with whom they set up a personal study plan. The supervisor will be the student's personal coach throughout the research master's.

The programme's courses aim to intensify and broaden the students' knowledge base and to develop research and publication skills. You are encouraged to visit conferences, contribute to workshops and to take courses outside the department.

These are the international student eligibility for the Archaeology (Research MA) in Netherlands

If you have a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or in a Mathematics-related programme from a foreign research university with a level similar to Dutch universities, you are eligible to apply under the condition that you have accumulated the mathematical background at least equivalent to a Dutch bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. The Board of Admissions will assess whether your degree and background are sufficiently related to the level and content of the Dutch BSc degree in Mathematics. You are eligible to apply if you have

  1. A BSc degree in Mathematics (Wiskunde) from any research university in the Netherlands. OR A bachelor’s degree in a Mathematics-related programme from a research university in the Netherlands, under the condition that you have accumulated the mathematical background at least equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.
  2. The Board of Admissions will assess whether your degree and background are sufficiently related to the BSc degree in Mathematics. For more information, please contact the Admission Board. If you have a degree in Dutch higher vocational education (hbo) in a Mathematics-related field of science, you are eligible to apply under the condition that you have accumulated the mathematical background at least equivalent to a university bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.
