  • Students must have strong preparation in economics and in the mathematical tools needed to be successful in the program, including the following university-level courses:
  • Advanced microeconomics
  • Advanced macroeconomics
  • Advanced econometrics
  • Mathematical economics; as an equivalent two terms of calculus and one term of linear algebra
  • A GRE score is not required but is recommended for all international students applying to the program.

  • The Department of Economics does not consider international applications whose English language proficiency scores fall below the minimum requirements

Effective May 1, 2012, Waterloo’s guideline for minimum funding for incoming full-time master’s students in the first year of a non-co-op Master of Arts (MA), Master of Fine Arts (MFA), Master of Environmental Studies (MES), Master of Applied Science (MASc), Master of Mathematics (MMATH) (except coursework programs), or Master of Science (MSc) (except coursework programs) is $12,000.

This commitment applies to the first year of full-time enrolment for students in good academic standing. At Waterloo, graduate students may be able to receive funding from various sources such as Teaching Assistantships (TA), Research Assistantships (RA), Graduate Research Studentships (GRS), internal awards, external awards, bursaries and emergency loans.
