Program Overview for BA in Gender and Women's Studies in Canada:

Gender has operated as a fundamental category in the organization of knowledge, social systems, forms of representation, and modes of production and consumption. You'll investigate the ways that gender intersects with other variables such as race, class, and cultural difference.

An alternative to the traditional curriculum, Gender and Women’s Studies provides you with the opportunity to examine the history, social structures, the sciences, language, literature, and culture from critical and illuminating perspectives.

Careers and future study:

With a degree in Gender and Women’s Studies, and the ability to think critically and solve problems collaboratively, you’ll be ready to contribute to society by challenging some of its most deeply embedded and regressive ideas, and by promoting change within your chosen career. Here are just a few of the careers paths you might take after graduating from the Gender and Women’s Studies program (some may require further studies):

• social worker or counselor
• researcher
• program coordinator

Future studies could include programs at the graduate level in interdisciplinary, cultural or educational studies. Or a professional degree in social work, law or the health professions.

Minimum admission requirements:

1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
2. A minimum overall average of 70% in five academic Grade 12 courses
3. A final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 academic English and any other required subject (see list below)

Please note: Admission to many programs at Dalhousie is competitive; meeting the minimum average doesn’t guarantee admission. Typically, 70% or higher is necessary in all required subjects for early admission.

If you don’t currently meet these requirements, you may be eligible for one of our upgrading or pathway programs.

International High School Applicant Requirment Based on Curriculum:

1. Advanced Placement (AP)
2. Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE)
3. French Baccalauréat
4. GCE A Level (British System)
5. Home-schooled applicants
6. International Baccalaureate (IB)
7. US Curriculum

You'll be assessed based on the equivalency of your home country.
