Program Overview for Bachelor of Community Design in Canada:

Community Design is for students who care about the character and future of our communities. You'll learn todesign better living environments and give communities the tools to make their own choices through real-life and hands-on experiences.

You'll do all of this while keeping sustainability and the environment in mind. 

Careers and future study:

Our graduates are highly valued by public, private, and non-profit organizations. They find work with housing agencies, development firms, municipal planning departments, urban revitalization projects, federal departments or crown corporations, non-governmental agencies, real estate companies, non-profit environmental organizations, and many other related groups. Specific positions include:

• GIS administrator
• director of community development
• transit planner

BCD Honours graduates can follow the process to become a Registered Professional Planner.

Future studies could include completing a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies or programs at the graduate level in planning, public administration or business administration.

You’ll need to meet the general admission requirements as well as the program specific admission requirements before you can apply.

Minimum admission requirements:

1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
2. A minimum overall average of 70% in five academic Grade 12 courses
3. A final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 academic English and any other required subject (see list below)

Please note: Admission to many programs at Dalhousie is competitive; meeting the minimum average doesn’t guarantee admission. Typically, 70% or higher is necessary in all required subjects for early admission.

If you don’t currently meet these requirements, you may be eligible for one of our upgrading or pathway programs.

International High School Applicant Requirment Based on Curriculum:

1. Advanced Placement (AP)
2. Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE)
3. French Baccalauréat
4. GCE A Level (British System)
5. Home-schooled applicants
6. International Baccalaureate (IB)
7. US Curriculum

You'll be assessed based on the equivalency of your home country.
