Program Overview for BA in Theatre in Canada:

Whether your passion is for acting, directing, playwriting, dramaturgy, costume design or construction, scenic design or carpentry, lighting, sound, props, stage management, or studying the history of theatre, the Fountain School of Performing Arts can give you what you need to get you started in your chosen career.

Careers and future study:

Choosing Theatre at Dal opens you up to a world of opportunity through a wide variety of career options:

• director, playwright, actor, artisan, technician, or designer in the professional theatre in Canada and abroad
• high school drama teacher
• arts administration in the theatre and film industries
   

Future studies could include programs at the graduate level in theatre, scenography, or a professional degree such as law.

You’ll need to meet the general admission requirements as well as the program specific admission requirements before you can apply.

Minimum admission requirements:

1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
2. A minimum overall average of 70% in five academic Grade 12 courses
3. A final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 academic English and any other required subject (see list below)

Please note: Admission to many programs at Dalhousie is competitive; meeting the minimum average doesn’t guarantee admission. Typically, 70% or higher is necessary in all required subjects for early admission.

If you don’t currently meet these requirements, you may be eligible for one of our upgrading or pathway programs.

International High School Applicant Requirment Based on Curriculum:

1. Advanced Placement (AP)
2. Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE)
3. French Baccalauréat
4. GCE A Level (British System)
5. Home-schooled applicants
6. International Baccalaureate (IB)
7. US Curriculum

You'll be assessed based on the equivalency of your home country.

Every year, Dalhousie awards millions in scholarships and bursaries to support incoming students. More than 2,000 entrance awards are available through our General Entrance Award application.
