French is one of Canada's two official languages and is used in many countries in the world (including France, Belgium, Switzerland, Haiti and several African countries). It is used by many international agencies, from the United Nations to the European Union and the Organization of American States. Arcadia’s French courses provide you with a wide range of courses covering language, culture and translation, as well as literature from France, Quebec, Arcadia, French-speaking Africa and the Caribbean.
The French degree provides a wealth of career options at home and abroad. The average salary of French and English employees is 28% higher than that of employees who only speak English.

Acadia’s French courses offer small classes to enhance your interaction with teachers and classmates in and out of the classroom. Acadia French course teachers use the latest technology to teach and learn foreign languages. Courses above 1000 level are taught in French, and the unit language is French.
In the third year of the Arcadia French course, you will have the opportunity to study for one year at François Rabelais University in Tours, France or at the School of Business in Nancy. If you have completed the main course in French, you will also benefit from exchange positions with the Universities of Rouen and Poitiers, and have the opportunity to work as a university English assistant in France for one year. In return, French students from Poitiers and Rouen taught French courses in Arcadia and conducted extracurricular activities for students and the entire community.
All students enrolled in French courses must take an online placement test before registering. The test and instructions can be found online: http://french.acadiau.ca/placementtest.html
