Experience an intensive, self-contained, and fascinating program that combines learning, research, and professional work in entertainment management. You will benefit from the advantages of a small school, where you will work closely with our faculty and staff, who will guide you in developing research skills and engaging the professional community. 

Acadia's Community Development Master's Program is a small, innovative, interdisciplinary two-year program focusing on community development and sustainability. In this project, you will mainly work closely with your supervisor on your research and thesis. Still, you will also take additional courses to complement your research and expand your subject knowledge. You will also gain real-life experience through professional or teaching internships, an integral part of the program.

The eligibility for Master of Community Development in Canada for both domestic and international student is:

We offer a small, innovative, and interdisciplinary two-year master's degree in community development. We are looking for applications from mature students interested in intensive, autonomous, and engaging courses and outstanding graduates with various bachelor degrees. The program is based on a thesis, and students complete a series of courses while working closely with faculty and staff on their research projects.

Opportunity to compete for graduate scholarships. We are looking for applicants who are particularly interested in one of the following areas: 

  • Community leadership, equity, and social change 
  • Tourism and sustainable community development
  • Active transportation and community health
  • Sustainable food and community development
  • Renewable energy and community participation
  • Adventure education
  • Environmental education
  • Community-based environmental and resource management 

This program can enroll up to two high-quality students each year and has high academic and professional requirements. Graduate students must have strong academic skills, including writing, speaking, and interpersonal communication. Each graduate student writes a thesis and completes a professional or teaching internship. Students are successful in close contact with teachers.

The small size means that graduate students have access to faculty and staff in other university departments to help them complete academic courses and research. The deadline for scholarship applications is February 1; otherwise, applications will be accepted throughout the year.

Requirements:

Applicants must possess an Honours degree, a four-year Bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, from an approved university. Candidates must have at least a B average in the courses taken in the major in the last two undergraduate years. No one type of degree is required, but the applicant must demonstrate a suitable background for the proposed thesis research area.

Beyond the requirements above, there are three criteria for selecting candidates for the program:

  1. Quality of academic record and professional work performance (if relevant)
  2. Ability and interest in working independently in a small research-oriented/advanced professional practice program
  3. A match in interests and projects between a faculty supervisor and student (see Faculty profiles and address this match in the application). Drs. Mary Sweatman, Glyn Bissix, Gabrielle Donnelly, John Colton, and Alan Warner are the faculty who typically supervise students.

N.B: Most universities have specific international admission requirements based on different education systems.
