Expand your chemistry knowledge and develop your research skills in Arcadia's highly engaged and research-focused study program. Acadia's Chemistry Graduate Program provides advanced courses in chemistry to enhance your subject knowledge and, at the same time, complement your studies in selected research projects. You will work closely with your supervisor to develop your analytical and critical thinking skills while studying real-world consequences.
Get Inspired:
Acadia’s Department of Chemistry has faculty and staff active in many research fields, including environmental chemistry, chemical biology, health and wellness, materials science, photochemistry, and photophysics. You will benefit from small classes, attractive researchers, and friendly faculty. You can also use incredible research tools and facilities within the department and connected research centers (such as the Arcadia Microstructure Analysis Center).
Research Interest:
Admission to graduate programs is competitive and possession of the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Candidates must possess an honours degree, or a four-year bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent, from an approved university.
Graduates holding degrees with high academic standing in fields that are closely related to Chemistry such as Biology, Physics, Geology and Engineering may also be accepted for graduate work in Chemistry although such students may be asked to take additional course work to improve their background in Chemistry.
Candidates must have at least a B- average (70%) in the courses taken in the major field in the last two undergraduate years.
Admission is dependent on the ability of an individual faculty member to fund additional students so it is important to contact those persons with whom you might wish to work before submitting a formal application for graduate study.

The Arcadia Postgraduate Award offers a limited number of Arcadia Postgraduate Awards (AGA) (up to a value of $ 9,000 per student). Students cannot receive an AGA award and another major award simultaneously, such as the NSERC Graduate Scholarship. Recipients must assume certain responsibilities during the school year as a condition of the award period, with a total AGA maximum of 10 hours per week. The department assigns specific responsibilities at the beginning of each academic year.
Full-time graduate students can only take the Acadia Graduate Award from September to April. To be eligible for this award, students must have a GPA of at least 3.00 in their field of study during the last two years of undergraduate study. 4,444 students scoring below B in courses that ended in December will lose their winter semester awards. Upon dis-enrollment or termination of enrollment in any graduate degree, payment of the Arcadia Graduate Award will cease immediately.
The Harry Elmore Felch Scholarships in Science are provided by the property of Mr. Harry Elmore Felch and are awarded to students in the Master of Science program. Annual awards are generally given to first-year students who have achieved higher academic status in the undergraduate program.
Priority will be given to residents of Kings County, Nova Scotia.
Other scholarships are also available.
