These are the international student eligibility for the Mathematics in Netherlands

The Mathematics programme is open to both Dutch and International Students. The Faculty's Admission Board will decide upon your admission after having evaluated your complete online application.

In order to gain admission to the Mathematics Master's programme, you will need to have at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited research university including at least three full years of aEUROemic study amounting to a minimum of 180 ECTS or equivalent. We do not require a GRE or GMAT test score. A Bachelor degree obtained at an applied university or higher vocational education (HBO in Dutch) in most cases does not grant direct access to the programme (only exceptionally high ranking students stand a chance of admission).

Specific admission requirements for the MSc Mathematics
Direct admission to the Master's programme in Mathematics is possible with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Engineering Mathematics from a university in the Netherlands. If you have a Bachelor's degree in another subject from a university or institute of higher education in The Netherlands or elsewhere, you require the approval of the Examination Board. The main admission criteria are:

  • A Bachelor's of Science
  • 90 ECTS (European Credit points) or equivalent of Mathematics courses at the BSc level, including some advanced courses

Direct admission to the Master's programme in Mathematics is possible with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Technical Mathematics from a university in the Netherlands. 

If you have a Bachelor's degree in another subject from a university or institute of higher education in The Netherlands or elsewhere, you require the approval of the Examination Board. The main admission criteria are:

  • A Bachelor of Science
  • 90 EC (European Credit points) or equivalent of Mathematics courses at the BSc level including some advanced courses

Students with a Bachelor's degree from an institution of aEUROemic higher education in a field that does not sufficiently correspond with the subject area covered by the Master's programme can request admission to the premaster’s programme. Admission to this programme is only possible if the deficiency amounts to at most 30 EC Mathematics courses. Please contact the master’s coordinator.

The English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements for Mathematics in Netherlands: are:

N.B: ELP is not mandatory for all international students. You could apply without ELP if your previous degree's medium of instruction were in English. Students of Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, for example, are not required to take the ELP test.
