Program Overview for Master of Planning in Canada:

Planning and Development are processes that permeate most human activities. Practitioners may be found working in a wide range of contexts – public and private sectors as well as not-for-profit organizations. Our program emphasizes planning for resilient rural, Indigenous, and remote communities in Canada and Internationally.

Graduates are highly successful in securing employment in the field.The Master of Science in Planning program offers students the ability to specialize in either Canadian or international context. Further, students are able to complete research in:

  •  community and social development, 
  • land use planning
  • resource and environment planning
  • rural policy
  • Indigenous planning.

These are the international student eligibility for the Master of Planning in Canada

To be eligible for the MPlan program students must meet one of the following two requirements:

  • Qualified graduates from relevant disciplines (minimum B- average) with 4-5 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience is determined by the admissions committee, or
  • Graduates from a professional program in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or Engineering (minimum B- average).

All applicants are required to demonstrate their specific interest in the program and their work and educational experience relating to rural planning and development. Moreover, you need to submit:

  • Transcripts
  • Recommendation Letter
  • Letter of Intent (Statement of Purpose)
  • CV/Resume

N.B: Most universities have specific international admission requirements based on different education systems.

The MPlan program and the University of Guelph provide a series of scholarships and funding supports to graduate students. That being said, the MPlan program in Rural Planning and Development is predominantly a self-funded professional program. As such, students need to be prepared to cover the full costs of the program.

  • Graduate Research Assistant (GRA)
  • Graduate Service Assistant (GSA)
