Your first year at NSCAD begins with two semesters of Foundation Studies. This experience builds a broad base of knowledge in the visual arts. A prerequisite for further study, Foundation introduces critical thinking, the development of a visual vocabulary, and key concepts and practices in art, craft and design. After exploring a wide range of ideas, approaches, processes and materials, you will be well-equipped to start making choices about where to focus your creative abilities and academic energies in the following years at NSCAD.
Our extensive Film program offers you an opportunity to explore the practice, history, theory and analysis of film production and film art.
The program combines comprehensive course options in different film production techniques with an academic overview to the history a theory of film arts. Our film program provides you with a broad understanding of the film production process, as well as the opportunity to create and develop your own projects.
International applicants must have completed high school graduation requirements equivalent to those required for Canadian applicants. Applicants whose language of instruction either in high school or at the post-secondary level is not in English must submit a test of English as a second language. International applicants for whom English is a second language must submit evidence of their ability to conduct studies in English.Other Documents required are
Applicants who have completed, or expect to complete high school by year-end; or have attended a post-secondary institution but have not studied visual arts at the post-secondary level; or have completed less than one full year of visual arts study at the post-secondary level.Applicants currently completing high school must submit a record of all studies from Grade 10 onward. These transcripts should include at least mid-term or first semester grades for the graduating year.
All high school applicants must have completed Grade 12 (or the highest grade level required for secondary graduation) with an average of 70 per cent or higher, including a minimum grade of 70 per cent in Grade 12 English for university preparation. When you apply for admission to NSCAD by the Fall deadline of March 1 for Foundation applicants and Feb 1 for Advanced Standing applicants, you are automatically considered for Entrance Scholarships. NSCAD awards over $80,000 in entrance scholarships annually, ranging from $500 to $8,000, and some awards are renewable for each of four years of study, making our top award approximately $32,000! After each year of study at NSCAD, more scholarships will be available for application by qualified students.
NSCAD University offers over $170,000 in scholarships to current students. Most scholarships require at least one full time semester of study before qualifying for an application. Anybody who applies for the March 1 deadline is automatically considered for scholarships.
