These are the international student eligibility for the PhD in Theology in Canada

• The candidate must hold a MA(Th) degree of the University of Ottawa/Saint Paul with a minimum 75 per cent (B+) average, or its equivalent.
• Among the applicants who meet this requirement, only those whose academic record gives assurance that they are able to succeed and to make a personal contribution to the field of theological studies will be accepted as candidates to the doctorate.
• The candidate must master either English or French and have a passive knowledge (ability to follow lectures and to read) of the other language.
• To be admitted in the biblical studies stream, candidates must have a basic knowledge (Level 1 - Introduction) of Hebrew and of Greek. They must acquire an intermediate level (level 2) of competence in Hebrew and Greek before presentation of the thesis project.
• The Faculty may require a candidate to acquire certain skills deemed necessary for the achievement of the research project (for example, knowledge of a language, basic knowledge of other disciplines).
• Provide two confidential letters of recommendation from professors who have know the applicant and are familiar with the student work.
• Provide a detailed draft of their proposed research project.

Admission Criteria

International students newly enrolled in one of the University’s French programs:

• Honours Bachelor and Master levels: a $1,500 scholarship per term;
• Doctorate: a scholarship of more than $4,500 per term, i.e. the same tuition fees as Canadians.

This scholarship is granted:

• For a maximum of four years based on eight sessions;
• For a maximum of two years for a master’s and four years for a doctorate, based on three sessions per year.

General conditions for admission:

• Have submitted an application for admission for the first time to Saint Paul University in a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral program offered in French (that is, not have studied at Saint Paul University previously), according to the conditions for admission of the program chosen, and have an admission average of 85% or higher.

Specific conditions for graduate students

• Have obtained your previous degree in French, with at least 60% of courses taken in French. 

Enrolment conditions to maintain this scholarship throughout your studies

Undergraduate:

• Be registered full-time in a program that is offered in French and take at least three courses in French (9 credits) per session.

Graduate:

• Be registered full-time in a program that is offered in French and take most of your courses in French.

Students who receive this scholarship are not eligible for the Admission Scholarship Program.

Admission Criteria

All master’s degree candidates (Canadians, permanent residents and international) with an admission average of at least 85% are eligible to receive $2,000 per term for the first three consecutive terms of full-time enrolment.

All doctoral candidates (Canadians, permanent residents and international) with an admission average of at least 85% are eligible to receive $2,000 per term for the first twelve consecutive terms of full-time enrolment.

These scholarships are awarded automatically and the amounts are paid at the beginning of each term into your student account. Candidates who wish to enrol for a Graduate Diploma (GD) may receive a $2,000 entrance scholarship for one term only, subject to the conditions listed above (full-time enrolment and an admission average of at least 85%). However, the amount received as part of a GD will be deducted from the total value of the master's degree if they decide to continue their studies at this level.
