This graduate course will provide students with advanced life science training in fields ranging from genomics and bioinformatics to natural resource management. Students will receive hands-on training in their subject, providing them with the skills to prepare for work in academia and industry. Our plan will use the new science complex to provide UWinnipeg students with innovative technology and laboratory opportunities. The program will develop communication skills to promote interaction with managers, legislators, and the public, and students will place their scientific achievements in a broader social context.
The program meets the growing needs of local, national and international health and environmental sciences. With the development of the Biomedical City, the growing research capabilities of the biotechnology industry, and the emergence of federal and provincial government health agencies, Winnipeg is the link for health science research. Interest in environmental sciences is also growing rapidly, and our graduate programs will coincide with the launch of the Richardson School of Environment at the University of Winnipeg.
This course provides students with broad and in-depth knowledge in the field of biology while developing the skills to communicate effectively and make informed decisions. Students learned about the ethical issues that our society faces, and they have a full appreciation of human, aesthetic, and environmental values. They have received training in science and ethics, science and public policy, and science in the context of global relations.
In this project, students may choose to specialize in a wide range of fields, such as genetics, physiology, natural resource management, and environmental science. Students complete at least 12 credits out of courses, undertake a major research project and finally receive a master's thesis. Students are expected to graduate in 2-3 years; the longest is 5 years.
Applicants to the program must hold a recognized 4-Year Bachelor of Science or equivalent with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (70%) and no grade less than C+ in the last two years of full-time university study. Other Required Documents:
