When studying on the coast of Cape Breton Island, surrounded by rugged coastlines and open Atlantic waters, you will feel like there is no other place. This is especially true for those in the field of nautical sciences where research opportunities are abundant. This is a natural match.
Together with the Canadian Coast Guard College (CCGC), the Bachelor of Technology (Navigation Science) is a unique program where students focus on marine safety and environmental protection. From a career in marine engineering, navigation, and even as a ship officer, you will learn surveillance, environmental response procedures, and search and rescue.
Students gain practical experience while learning how to maneuver various ships under various sea and ice conditions. You will easily operate numerous engineering systems on a real ship. The system includes hydraulics, propulsion devices, air conditioning systems, and electrical and electronic systems. There are also opportunities to use state-of-the-art propulsion simulators and practical training at CCG Academy and offshore.
Why choose CBU / CCGC?
CCCG Academy is a national degree-granting bilingual training institution and a proud partner of CBU. We are a unique marine university that aims to save lives, protect the environment and contribute to Canada's economic growth.

We encourage officers and trainees to live a healthy lifestyle in our multifunctional health center, which includes a 25-meter pool, double gym, modern gym and squash court, and lunchtime classes like CrossFit and yoga.
Students often participate in community sports and clubs, such as hockey, triathlon, Cabot Trail Relay, swim competitions, and rowing competitions.
