The plan is designed around strict compliance with certification standards and current professional, ethical practices. Students are ready to work with different people and environments as registered professional psychologists/consultants and researchers in the field. 

The program includes compulsory courses, including practice and internships, as well as comprehensive examinations, doctoral dissertations, and oral defense doctoral dissertations. The plan is intended to be completed in four years. Courses are completed as a queue on campus.

In this program, you will

  • demonstrate a critical understanding of counseling theory, research, and practice through academically rigorous verbal and written communication
  • establish competence in planning, conducting, evaluating, and disseminating counseling psychology research
  • acquire and demonstrate competency in case conceptualization, assessment, and interventions required for practice as a registered psychologist or professional counselor
  • understand and demonstrate ethical and legal standards, ethical reasoning, standards of practice, and professional conduct in counseling psychology
  • show understanding of the role of diversity in all areas of counseling psychology research and practice
  • understand and contribute to research-based scholarship that informs counseling practice

The eligibility for COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY (PHD) in Canada for both domestic and international student is:

  • Hold a master's degree from a recognized degree-granting institution in the discipline of interest or in a related discipline
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00, on a 4.00 scale on all graded master's-level courses OR calculated on the most recently completed PhD if the applicant is applying for another PhD in a closely related discipline
  • Evidence of scholarly competence
  • Demonstrate English Language Proficiency (ELP) for graduate student
  • Secure a potential supervisor
