The doctoral program is a four-year course. The degree format includes a course and a thesis. Students must pass a comprehensive written and oral exam in the first two years of the course.
The thesis is the most important part of the degree work, involving original research. For any potential student, the first step is to choose a potential tutor and, after consulting with the tutor, organize a research plan that includes possible thesis topics before being accepted. The teacher's research interest is a key factor in this initial decision.
The department is trying to expand and strengthen its research activities, and graduate students will play an important role. Almost all faculty and staff in the department receive external or internal funding to support their research projects.
Graduate degrees are traditionally awarded for the successful completion of the thesis. The path of the thesis expresses the basic traditions of academia. It is also related to undergraduate courses because writing a paper in any discipline requires a series of core skills of the general education tradition, including the analysis and synthesis of ideas, empirical investigation, construction and argumentation, and writing skills.
Due to the nature of the doctoral program, the thesis is the core requirement of the program. The thesis will be written under the guidance of one or more supervisors. Therefore, candidates must establish contact with potential supervisors before applying for admission. Candidates seeking potential mentors should contact the corresponding academic department or graduate school.
