Graduate students conduct research under the supervision of a faculty member in one of four research areas. Our research programs and laboratories are supported by four technologists, and also by staff from the Engineering Computer Centre.
The Department is connected to other Divisions across campus, including Engineering Physics and Biomedical Engineering. It is composed of 21 faculty and eight technical and administrative support staff.
Four faculty members in this complement hold chair positions: Tony C.Y. Chung (NSERC/SaskPower Senior Industrial Research Chair in Smart Grid Technologies), Ha Nguyen (NSERC/Cisco Systems Research Chair in Mining Solutions), Safa Kasap (Centennial Enhancement Chair in Photonics), and Brian Berscheid (Barbhold Chair in Information Technology).

In their applications, students should identify their financial status and state if attendance is contingent on receiving financial aid. The department employs about 20 graduate students as marking assistants and a limited number of scholarships, research fellowships and teaching assistantships are available. There is a keen competition for this financial support. Applications for Departmental Scholarships, Research Fellowships and Teaching Assistantships may only be submitted after a student has been admitted.
In addition to potential funding from your department, there are scholarships and awards available to all eligible students. There are also special programs for international students from China and Mexico.
We recommend that you contact the faculty that are doing research in an area that interests you before beginning a formal application.
