Earn a bachelor's degree in computer information systems from UFV and gain the analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills needed to become an information technology industry manager. 

According to the recent BC Stats report, the median weekly income of technical staff in British Columbia is 85% higher than that of non-technical staff, making IT an attractive career choice. To prepare you for career opportunities in the IT field, the Bachelor of Computer Information Systems includes a combination of theoretical and practical knowledge applied in UFV's fully equipped laboratory. 

In your freshman and sophomore years, you complete the basic courses to provide you with a broad knowledge and experience foundation to support and maintain personal and network systems. In the third and fourth years, you will gain more technical knowledge and skills, a wider education breadth, and better business training, ready to enter a management position in the information technology field. You may also choose to specialize in one of the following three specialties to hone your skills:

In recent years, rapid changes and the increasing use of outsourcing have made the IT workplace very unstable. The School of Computing holds two meetings a year with an external advisory committee to track and predict changes and make plans relevant to current and future organizational needs. Our diversified committees are comprised of members from industry and the public sector, whose knowledge and experience are relevant, timely, and critical to our decision-making process.

The list includes computer and information systems administrators; information systems analysts and consultants; computer programmers and interactive media developers; web designers and developers; computer network technicians and computer engineers.

Students should check with the CIS department about the specific prerequisites required for the initial course.

Technical Requirements: 

Students who participate in any computer information system course are strongly encouraged to ensure that they can use personal computers and Internet connections at home, and provide sufficient resources for their learning level. Students can consult the CIS Department of Computer Information Systems Student Association for hardware and software recommendations.
