Do you want to learn about the wonderful mosaic of our world's cultural, physical, and biological characteristics? Research geography to explore the connection between people and the environment and conduct far-reaching explorations in the fields of history, politics, economy, culture, and science.
Geography emphasizes solving real-world problems, such as immigration, climate change, economics and trade, land use, and sustainability, which can make your career positively impact the world. UFV offers Bachelor of Arts (BA), minor, extended minor, minor, or geography honors. This program provides you with a comprehensive introduction to humanities, nature, and regional geography.
In the last two years of the geography major, you may major in environmental science, global research, or urban research and planning to prepare for employment in a specific field.
As a geography student at UFV, you have the opportunity to participate in original, laboratory, and field research with expert teachers in the first year, covering urban planning, food security, global development, climate change, and other fields.
In addition, the optional paid cooperative internship throughout the study period can help you gain valuable work experience and earn job or graduate study references. If you plan to continue studying graduate courses in geography, environmental studies, international development, urban planning, or related fields, studying geography is a good choice. This is also an excellent option to prepare for a bachelor's degree in education.
Career expectations:
Globalization and climate change require government agencies to have a deeper understanding of the places, people, and natural systems that affect the planet. This is why a Bachelor of Arts degree with a minor in geography is excellent preparation for employment in the public sector, especially in the local and provincial departments responsible for policy innovation and implementation.
Many UFV geography graduates use their training to work in urban planning, land management, environmental consulting, policy research, and community development for government and non-governmental organizations.
You can also use the strong research, critical thinking, and writing skills gained in other employment fields (such as education, tourism, publishing, market research, transportation, logistics, etc.) as part of your degree in geography.
