Are you passionate about environmental problems and want to help solve problems like global warming, pollution, and food shortages? Learning physical geography and understanding the physical characteristics of the earth and the processes found in the natural environment can prepare you for challenges such as climate change and sustainable development.
The Bachelor of Physical Geography at UFV provides a strong background in natural sciences, a comprehensive understanding of the factors that affect the environment, and hands-on experience in data collection, analysis, and evaluation. You may specialize in one or more subfields of physical geography, including climatology, geomorphology, biogeography, or geographic information systems (GIS).
As a physical geography student at UFV, you have a great opportunity to work with dedicated faculty and conduct primitive laboratory and field research from the first year on various topics such as urban planning, food safety, palaeoecology, etc. gloss data, global development, and climate change. In addition, the optional paid cooperative work internship during the entire study period can help you gain valuable work experience and obtain employment or graduate study references.
The Bachelor of Science in Geography is excellent preparation for studying for a Master of Science in Geography, Earth Science, Environmental Studies, or related fields. Choose the honors option to gain additional research experience, which you can include in your resume or postgraduate study application.
Physical Geography Career Prospects:
In its Successful Skills Report, the Canadian Conference Committee listed physical science professionals as one of the top 25 occupations that may experience a skills shortage in the next few years. A Bachelor of Geography prepares you to meet the growing demand in this field.
You can find jobs in government agencies with environmental, conservation, or natural resource portfolios; environmental consulting companies; surveying or engineering companies; natural prospecting companies; forestry companies; and more. Stand out by combining your geography major with other popular subjects (such as French, chemistry, or mathematics), and prepare yourself for your education through UFV's rich teacher training program.
