Our distributed online program is very suitable for working professionals. Your original research project must be supervised by faculty and staff. You will defend it in the oral exam.
Areas of focus
Applicants should have or be about to receive a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Ideally, applicants should have an average of B or better for the final two years of study. They must also have a minimum of four years of professional experience, paid or volunteer, in the community development sector. International students should refer to the Faculty of Graduate Studies’ international admission requirements.
Applicants who do not possess a Canadian undergraduate degree will be required to write and submit official results of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). International students whose first language is not English must provide valid test results for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The minimum score for the TOEFL is 610 on the paper-based test and 102 on the Internet-based test. For details on language proficiency, go to the Graduate Admissions website.
Applicants without a B average may be admitted as mature students, provided they have an undergraduate degree. They have had four years of relevant professional experience since the completion of their degree. Complete résumés are required to determine the eligibility of mature students for admission, which the Dean must approve of Graduate Studies.

MACD and MPA (thesis/co-op) students do not need a supervisor for admission, but after reviewing the faculty contacts we recommend you list three potential supervisors in your letter of intent. We'll assign you a supervisor based on availability and area of research early in your program.
