The Postgraduate Program in Neuroscience is a multidisciplinary project that combines professors from various UVic departments:
Our Graduate Program in Neuroscience Focuses on cellular and cognitive neuroscience, which reflects the two main streams of neuroscience research at UVic.
The program emphasizes the links between the core areas of neuroscience: learning and memory, synaptic function, developmental neuroscience, sensorimotor systems, and disease and injury. We encourage students to develop skills in multiple fields.
Our Master of Neuroscience is a full-time research degree with thesis and course requirements. Your paper will be based on your own original and in-depth research.
Areas of focus
Admission requires a bachelor’s degree with coursework appropriate to the proposed thesis research concentration. Students must have a Neuroscience faculty member agree to supervise them and provide financial support in advance of applying to the program.
Students considered for admission must meet the Faculty of Graduate Studies minimum grade point average (GPA) for admission. For students transferring from another program within UVic, the Neuroscience Graduate Program Committee will consider the application based on their GPA from the last two academic years.
Initial inquiries should be made directly by email to a prospective research supervisor to see if a position is available. The research supervisor may request unofficial transcripts, CV, two letters of reference (with at least one independent reference letter that a direct supervisor or lab member does not write.) a letter outlining your research interests.
If a Neuroscience faculty member agrees to supervise you, formally apply to the Neuroscience Graduate Program using the online application. Ensure all of your application materials have been received by Graduate Admissions by reviewing your online application checklist. Email the Neuroscience Graduate Program Administrator: dmsgrad@uvic.ca written confirmation from the faculty member that has agreed to supervise you.
