This doctorate is a research-intensive course that will prepare you for a career in higher education, government departments and other organizations. You will supplement your advanced knowledge through courses and candidate exams. You will conduct original research in the field of sports activities and health. This research will result in the creation of a thesis, which you will defend in an oral exam.

In addition to the requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, admission to the doctoral program in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education includes a master’s degree in kinesiology or related field, a letter describing the proposed research topic, two academic referees, a confirmed supervisor, and a current curriculum vitae. In exceptional circumstances, students can transfer from a Masters's thesis program. Transfer approval requires an 8.0 GPA on a minimum of 7.5 units of completed graduate program coursework over two or more terms, the recommendation from the supervisor, and evidence of research ability in the form of a draft manuscript or written pilot study report. Transfer cannot occur until after two terms in the Master.
