Effective environmental action and research require the participation of the land and the people who live on it. Cooperate with international communities, indigenous peoples, government agencies, etc. to carry out important environmental investigations.
You will have access to various research facilities on campus, such as our Ethnoecology, Restoration, and Conservation Ecology and Visualization Laboratory. UVic's proximity to marine and alpine ecosystems, freshwater wetlands, rivers, lakes, and temperate forests makes us an ideal place for excursions.
Master's and Master's programs are research-intensive and focus on thesis creation. This original work will showcase advanced research and knowledge of environmental research. At the beginning of our plan, you must participate in a three-day field camp. The MA and MSc courses vary based on your elective courses and your thesis research. Discuss with your supervisor which is the best option for you.

Initial inquiries should be made to individual faculty or the school's graduate adviser. There are two primary criteria in determining admission: prior academic achievement and fit with prospective supervisors and the school in general. We encourage applicants to contact us at least a year in advance of the program start to discuss research prospects, admissions, and financial support.
Applicants are required to meet the Faculty of Graduate Studies English Language Proficiency requirement. Those who have met the requirement may be required to take English language courses and their other coursework.
Admission requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in an area of study related to the proposed graduate research. The minimum GPA required for a master's entry is 6.5 on the University of Victoria 9-point scale (B+ average) in the last two years of undergraduate study. In practice, a higher GPA is typically required for admission. Some exceptions may be made, in extenuating circumstances, such as with mature applicants who have achieved significant work experience, who have shown evidence of ability to complete major projects in a competent and timely manner, and who have demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities expected of highly accomplished undergraduate students.
In addition to the documentation required by the Faculty of Graduate Studies (see Faculty Admissions), applicants must also submit a statement of research interest (1-2 pages), a brief introductory essay that highlights past accomplishments (1-2 pages), and a CV.
Students will apply to enter either the MA or MSc program. The decision about which program is more appropriate will be made by the School’s Graduate Programs Committee and will be based on several criteria: the student’s academic background, the nature of the proposed project; proposed courses; specialties of the proposed supervisor.
Typically, students entering the program with a Bachelor of Arts degree will continue with a MA degree, whereas students with a Bachelor of Science will enter the MSc program.
Students may complete the program as full-time or part-time students.
