The eligibility for Phd in Computer Science in Canada for both domestic and international student is:
Initial inquiries regarding graduate studies in Computer Science should be addressed to the Graduate Secretary, Department of Computer Science. The Faculty of Graduate Studies' website contains information on how applicants upload and submit supporting documents to their online application. The application and supporting documents are first evaluated by the Graduate Admissions and Records Office.
Applicants for admission whose first language is not English must meet the English Competency Requirement specified by the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The GRE (Graduate Records Examination) test is highly recommended.
Students interested in the Co-op program should contact the Computer Science Co-op Office.
Ph.D. applicants must normally have completed a Master’s degree in Computer Science, or the equivalent, with first-class standing. Potential supervisors make final decisions on admissions.
Deadlines
Applications may be submitted at any time, and students may opt to commence in any of the three terms (namely, September, January, or May). However, it should be noted that most of our programs are geared toward those who start in September, and not all courses and support facilities are fully available at other entry points. We offer full-time, part-time, and Co-op options for studies in Computer Science. Please consult the department website for specific deadline dates.
N.B: Most universities have specific international admission requirements based on different education systems.

Computer Science MSc and PhD applicants don’t need a supervisor to apply for admission. However, you should list potential supervisors in your application. Supervisors make the final decisions on admission for eligible applicants.

Graduate students registered in full-time programs are automatically considered for a fellowship. This is based on a qualifying GPA.

- Up to $17,500 per year (masters)

Eligibility
- The minimum requirement for funding consideration is an A- average on the last two years of coursework
- Domestic and international students are considered equally for funding
- Full-time registration (3.0 units) for UVic Fellowship holders and at least part-time registration (1.5 units) for UVic Graduate Award holders
- Full-time registration for students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning (CAL) is 1.5 units
Every year we employ many graduate students to assist with teaching, research, and lab instruction.
- Their academic units hire teaching assistants (TAs) to assist with teaching and grading courses. These are unionized, hourly positions.
- Faculty members hire research assistants (RAs) to help with their research. These roles are sometimes called scientific assistants or laboratory instructors. RA salaries come from faculty members’ research grants. Because of this, RA hours, salary, and other details are worked out between you and the faculty member.
Work-study
The work-study program offers part-time jobs on campus that fit your course schedule.

Co-operative Education Program (co-op)
UVic is home to the largest graduate co-op program in Canada. You can add a co-op to your master’s or doctoral studies for work experience in your field of study.

- Already receiving the maximum government student loans available to you
